Passed away at the Lions Manor Nursing Home, Placentia, Peter
Joseph Duke, in his 83rd year, of Fox Harbour,
originally from Iona Island, Placentia Bay.
He is predeceased by his parents John and Ellen Duke; his
brother Gerard (Gerry) Duke, and James Duke (Gloria); his sisters
Claire O’Keefe (George), Nell Norman (Billy), and his
special sister and best friend Mary McCue, and his life-long buddy
Mike McCue; his mother and father-in-law John and Isabella Dreaddy;
brother-in-law Henry Meyers of Scranton, PA; sisters-in-law Dorothy
Dreaddy Moore, and Rosemary Dreaddy; and his life-long friends and
partners in mischief Patrick Barron, Nick Flynn, Thomas Howe, and
Jimmy King; and his trouting buddy William King (Billy
Henry).
Leaving behind wife Frances of 53 years, and leaving to mourn
his ever loving daughter Tracey and her husband Wayne Mulrooney; his
precious grandson and pride and joy Alexander Duke and his
fiancé Shannen; his special niece Mame Culleton and her
husband Jimmy; his step-grandson Kyle Martin, his wife Helena, and
their daughters Isabella and Trinity; his sisters Mathilda Dawe
(John), and Margaret Gillette; his brothers Jack (Stache), and Pad
(Marian); sister-in-law Shirley Duke; sisters-in-law Donna Collins
(Kenny), Mary Parsons (Con), Jane Foley (Terry), Veronica Healey
(Paddy), Cecilia Vancosky Meyers, and Regina Kelly (Brian);
brothers-in-law Mike Dreaddy (Mollie), Harold (Nancy), Richard, James,
Jack, and Joe (Christine); and many nieces, nephews and
friends.
Special mention and thanks to Dad’s life-long
faithful friends who were always there for him, even through his
illness: Jimmy Culleton, Con Parsons, Richard Quilty,
especially Con Parsons, who was more like a
brother.
Thank you to the nurses, doctors, LPNs, PCAs and all other
staff at the Lions Manor. All kindness, care, and every
gesture is and was appreciated, and will be
remembered.
Special thanks to Jenny O’Keefe and Bridget Lannon
for the laughter and smiles that you brought to me on the worst
day. It will never be forgotten.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Maher’s Funeral
Home, Placentia. Visitation to take place from 10am to 9pm
on Saturday and Sunday. Mass of Christian Burial to take
place 11am on Monday, September 24th at Sacred
Heart Church, Fox Harbour. Cremation to follow, along with a
private inurnment which will take place at a later
date.
Flowers gratefully accepted, as well as donations in
Peter’s memory to the St. Anne’s Breakfast
Program, or do something good for your neighbour and expect nothing in
return.
