After a lengthy illness, it is with heavy hearts that we
announce the peaceful passing of John Patrick Whiffen, age 74, of Fox
Harbour at Carbonear General Hospital on May 16,
2021.
Leaving to mourn his wife Maureen (his soul mate and best
friend for 51 years); siblings Elizabeth Griffin (Ed), Deanie Pittman
(Mike), Ben Whiffen (Theresa), Wish Pittman (Kathleen), and Andy
Whiffen (Joan); sister-in-law Kathleen Whiffen, brother-in-law Jack
Griffiths, in-laws John Hann (Rita), Anita Macleod (Bob), and Tom Hann
(Anita); as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, cousins,
friends and his "Little Brother" Paul
Baker.
Predeceased by his parents Maurice and Ellen Whiffen, sisters
Martha Griffiths and Annie Whiffen, brother Joseph Whiffen,
grandparents Elizabeth Dormody and Patrick Bruce, Maurice and Mary
Ellen Whiffen, and father and mother-in-law Thomas and Kathleen
Hann.
John was a veteran and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion
Branch 33. He served his community for over 20 years as a
councilor and mayor. Her was a Big Brother with Big Brothers
Big Sisters, participated in a Habitat for Humanity Project, was an
avid woodworker and loved music.
Funeral Mass to take place 11am on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at
Sacred Heart Church, Fox Harbour. Anyone planning to attend
