It is with great sadness that the family of Francis Joseph Whelan announce his peaceful passing on August 25, 2021 at the Lion’s Manor Nursing Home in Placentia at the age of 92.

Predeceased by his parents: Thomas and Ann Whelan, his darling daughter, Linda, his son-in-law, Martin Leonard, his sisters Mary Lambe (Garrett) and Angela Barry (Michael), his brothers John, Dennis and Cyril (Helen).

Leaving to mourn his loving wife, Marie, his children Shirley Leonard (Martin deceased), Louise Whelan, Gerry Whelan (Lynn) and Lisa Whelan (Ellie).

His grandchildren: Scott Leonard (Amy), Craig Leonard (Brittany), Dennis Leonard (Lisa) Heather Hayward (Darren), Stephanie Connors (Joey), Jack Whelan (Claudia), and Luke Whelan.

His great-grandchildren: Whelan River Leonard, Scarlett Rose Leonard, Tessa and Marty Leonard, Logan and Isabella Hayward and Ethan and Jaxon Connors.

His special niece Linda Barry Wakeham (Bob). His nephews, brothers and sisters in-law and their extended families.

His family would like to thank all of those who cared for him at the Lion’s Manor Nursing Home with such love, care and compassion. We would also like to thank Dr. Robert Power for his care and compassion over the last number of years. 

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Maher’s Funeral Home. Visitations to take place on Friday, August 27, 2021, 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 10:30 am, at the Sacred Heart Church, Placentia.

Inurnment at the Mount Carmel Cemetery, Placentia.

Due to COVID-19 we ask that masks be worn at the funeral home and at the church. Name and phone number will be required for contact tracing information at the funeral home and at the church.
