Laurie Blackwood Pike (Grandpa Pike)

September 17, 1944 – June 22, 2022

It is with heavy hearts today that we announce the passing of a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and dear friend.

Predeceased by his parents Alreta and Roddy Pike, sister Hazel and brother Robert. Leaving to mourn, his beloved wife Kathleen, his cherished daughter Laurie Shannon (Stephen), his sister Irene (Ken), brothers Doug (Mona) and Dave. Also leaving to mourn, the Flynn family, especially sister-in-law, Mary who was invaluable to Laurie & Katie particularly in recent weeks.

Laurie was born in Stanhope, NL but for much of his life made Yarmouth, NS his home. He spent fifty years in hardware sales and marketing and in 2017 received The Golden Hammer award to recognize this accomplishment. Laurie was a man of great intellect and wit, with a singing voice that could be as hypnotic as those in a church choir or as downhome as those around the table of a magnificent kitchen party, both of which he had experienced. He was an avid gardener, art/antique collector and a published author. He was unapologetically himself with strong, well-thought out convictions, but his heart was soft and tender when it came to two of his greatest loves (Kathleen and Laurie Shannon). He recently told Katie that he had known great love twice in his lifetime, once when he met her and looked in her eyes for the first time and the second when his baby girl, Laurie Shannon was born. After being diagnosed with cancer some 10 years ago, Laurie continued to fight and had many other great accomplishments including writing and promoting five books.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Maher’s Funeral Home, Placentia, NL. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will take place at later date.

A special thank you to Kelly Culleton and Nicole Richardson with the Palliative Care team in Placentia.
