Regina Mary Lannon
5 September 1923 –
Southeast Placentia NL
26 June 2022 – Halifax,
N.S.
Regina lived a long and busy life. She was the most energetic
person most people had ever met. She worked for the Royal
Bank of Canada for over forty years, in Placentia, St.
John’s, on the U.S. Naval Station in Argentia, and finally
in Halifax. In Argentia, she became manager, one of the early
appointments of a woman in that role in Eastern Canada. In her early
working years, she walked nearly four miles each way to
work, until after two years she saved up enough to buy a
one-speed bicycle. In the winter she even occasionally was able to ice
skate down the Southeast Arm to work. She swam regularly into her
80’s. and determinedly walked outside even when she had to
use a walker.
After the deaths of her parents in the mid 1970’s,
Regina moved to Halifax, where she eventually retired. Wherever she
lived the Catholic Church was an important part of her life and she
was a dedicated volunteer. She became a Eucharistic Minister, bringing
communion and offering companionship (and tea buns!) to people with
limited mobility. Her wonderful baking was shared
generously, and when she went for groceries, she filled her car with
neighbours who needed transport. One of the things she most regretted
in her later years in the care home was that she could not cook for
visitors.
In 2015, Regina’s arthritis led her to move into
Shannex Clayton Park (Parkstone Enhanced Care), where she lived until
her death. She was predeceased by her parents George Lannon and Bride
(McLennon) Lannon and by her brothers Ronald (Florence Greene), Thomas
(Mary Maynard) and Stanislaus (Delores Waters) and her sister Carmel
(Stan Callanan). She leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins
and some very good friends. The family would like to acknowledge the
kindness and care offered by the nurses and caregivers at Parkstone
Enhanced Care.
Cremation took place in Nova Scotia, and Regina has returned
home to Newfoundland. Visitation will take place at Maher's Funeral
