August 1, 1937 – August 1, 2022

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Theresa Collins announces her passing at the Placentia Health Centre on August 1, 2022 at the age of 85.

Passing peacefully, she rejoins her husband and loving partner of 61 years, Edward. Predeceased by her parents, Francis and Elizabeth Vigneau, Theresa leaves warm and fond memories with her children, daughters Rose Marie (Mike), Anne Marie (Bill), Sandra and son Francis (Anne Marie); nine grandchildren, Jeffrey (Jenny) and Joshua (Candace) Collins, Mark (Julie) Sutton, Victoria (Alex) Kohout, David (Allison) Sutton, Dennis Sutton, Billy (Annya) Wells, Laurianne (Sean) Sutton, and Dianne (Mark) Wells; and six great-grandchildren, Hailey, Edward, Zoey, Eva, Chase, and Brielle.

Also leaving to mourn are her sister, Etiennette Girardin, brother, Andre Vigneau, a large extended family in St. Pierre and Miquelon, and her best friend and faithful companion, Shirley Greene.

Born in the French island of Miquelon, Theresa Vigneau met her future husband, a sailor, at a local dance during a port of call in 1953. Falling in love and yet not speaking any English, she married Edward and followed him to Newfoundland at the age of 17, eventually settling in Jersey Side where they raised their four children and together built a series of successful businesses.

For Theresa, what mattered in life were spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, morning walks, gardening, music, travel, and regular trips to St. John’s with Shirley. A passionate cook and cardplayer, she enjoyed exchanging recipes (especially her French favourites) and playing numerous rounds of Crib and Scat amid a helpful sharing of homemade desserts and tea.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, August 3rd from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm at Maher’s Funeral Home, Placentia. Funeral mass at Placentia Sacred Heart Church on Thursday, August 4 th at 11am, with interment to follow at Dermot McGettigan Memorial Cemetery, Southeast Placentia.

The family would like to thank Dr. Power for his kindness and support. Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of one’s choice.
