Patrick Joseph Counsel

August 15, 1944 - April 25, 2023

 

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Patrick Counsel announce his peaceful passing at the Placentia Healthcare Centre on Tuesday April 25, 2023, aged 78.

Predeceased by his mother Mary Ann (2010), father Michael (1990), his brother Michael (1969), his infant siblings Rita, Joseph and Bernadette, his daughter Sharon (1981), grandson William (2010), and brothers-in-law Francis Whelan (2021) and Vincent Carroll (2022).

Left to celebrate his wonderful life are his wife of 57 years Lucy, sons Philip (Debbie), Jason (Elizabeth), John (Kristy) and Patrick, and daughter Susie (Brant) along with his 7 grandchildren Kate, Charlotte, Mary Anne, John, Lucas, Adrian and Nora; his siblings Marie, Tom (Helen), Anne, Donnie (Jim), Marion (Wayne), Anita (Dick), and numerous relatives and friends. 

Pat was born on Red Island August 15th, 1944, and he met the love of his life when he started teaching alongside Lucy Hennessey on Merasheen. He was a dedicated family man, an avid outdoorsman and fisherman who enjoyed his days on the water. He had a long and successful career as an educator and school administrator, where he brought his love of nature and creative spirit to help bring learning alive for his students. He was a poet and songwriter; his voice, guitar and accordion were the soundtrack of his house on O’Reilly Street. His gentle spirit and lust for life were felt by all who had the privilege to know him.

Visitation will take place at Maher’s Funeral Home in Placentia on Friday, April 28th from 2-4 and 6-9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Rosary Church in Freshwater, Saturday April 29th at 10:30 a.m. Inurnment to follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Placentia.
