It is with great sadness that the Roche family announces the sudden passing of Sean Edward Roche, on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at age 51, at his home in Branch.  Sean was a beloved son, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin, and friend to all.

In heaven, he will be embraced by his father, Frederick Joseph Roche.  Left to mourn with broken hearts are his mother, Maureen Roche, brothers Frederick (Tracy), Stephen, Peter (Joy), Edward (Kim), John Paul (Vanessa) and sisters, Kim Careen (Gilbert) and Emily McGrath (Bradley), his uncles and aunts of the Power and Roche families, his many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sean spent his younger years fishing with his father, Freddie and later, pursued the fishery on larger vessels in British Columbia.  He went on to become a heavy equipment operator, a career that gave him the opportunity to work all over Canada and in more recent years brought him home to work in NL.  Sean was widely known in his field as one of the best heavy equipment operators and always took great pride in his work.  Due to various health issues and challenges, Sean spent the last few  years living at home with his mother, Maureen, who was totally devoted to him and gave him so much of the support he needed.  He loved his mother dearly and was so grateful for all she did for him.  He also enjoyed visits from his friends and family but in particular, his nieces and nephews.

Sean, known to many as the Friendly Giant, will be remembered for his kind and gentle nature despite his physical stature.  His unique and hearty laugh could make anyone laugh along with him.  His nieces and nephews will miss their many interactions with their Uncle Sean, who always had time for a laugh or a smile. Nothing made Sean happier than visits from his brothers and sisters whom he loved dearly.  As well, Sean had a huge circle of close, lifelong friends, too numerous to mention, with whom he shared many happy memories of their escapades together. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Cremation has taken place.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2024 from 3 PM to 9 PM with a prayer service at 7pm.  Visitation will continue on Friday, April 12, 2024 from 10 AM to 1 PM at Holy Rosary Church in Branch. The Funeral Mass, celebrated by Father Jerome Hann, will take place at Holy Rosary Church on Friday, April 12, 2024 at 2PM.

As expressions of sympathy, flowers are gratefully accepted or a donation in Sean’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Rest in peace, Sean.  Our family chain has been broken and life will never be the same without you.
