Born on December 8, 1950, Gerard was raised in Freshwater, and still lived in the home he built for his family at the time of his passing.

Predeceased by his parents, Bernard and Monica, his brothers, McDermott, Vincent and Raymond (Eunice). Left to mourn are his children Corey (Anna) and Vanessa (Ray), and their mother Rita; his beloved grandchildren: Courtney, Christian, Avery, Madelaine, Michaela and Conor; and his siblings: Rosemary (Duncan), Bernard, Francis, John (Yvonne), Donna and Donald. Also left to mourn are many special nieces, nephews and cousins from the McCarthy and Power families.

Gerard was a loving father, a talented musician (piano, guitar, saxophone, accordion), an expert in many professions, including having achieved his Red Seal in Carpentry and Pipeline Fusion. A born teacher, he took pleasure in sharing his expertise with anyone who needed a problem solved. Gerard’s work took him all over Newfoundland and Labrador, and with his accordion in tow, he made many friends along the way. Along with his generosity of knowledge, time and resources, he will be remembered for his brilliant mind, his musical entertainment, and his witty sense of humour. Gerard was loved by many, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
