Surrounded by his loving family, passed away on June 17, 2026 at the Lions Manor Nursing Home. Gerard Ryan, aged 70 years of Ferndale, formerly Petite Forte, Placentia Bay.

Predeceased by his wife Madonna; his parents Pius & Lillian Ryan; parents-in-law Michael & Margaret Traverse; sisters Josephine Monzillo, Renee Ryan, and twin sisters Madonna & Martina Ryan: twin brother Terry Ryan and brother Ray Newman; brothers-in-law John Barnett and Kevin Martin; and sister-in-law Lillian Budden.

Gerard is mourned by his children, Michelle (Mark) and Jason (Kate), and his treasured granddaughter Brianna; brothers Joe (Irene) and Ron (Margie); sisters-in-law Irene, Kathleen (Berkley), Christine (Pats), Linda (Clarence), and Marilyn (Rick); and brothers-in-law Jim, Edward (Josephine), and Kevin (Carmelita). Gerard is also mourned by his many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Gerard was a die-hard Montreal Canadians fan, never missing an opportunity to cheer on his favourite team. An avid dart player, Gerard was an enthusiastic member of most every league in the area. Gerard was also a proud member of the Star of the Sea Association, and was also a long-time employee there prior to his retirement. Life did not have its shortage of hardships, but Gerard faced each one with strength and determination. 

Special thank you to the staff of Placentia Health Centre and Lions Manor Nursing Home for their care and kindness over the past couple of years. So many treated Gerard like family and we are thankful for all that you did for him. To Darlene Young - thank you will never be enough to acknowledge all that you have done for Gerard and our family. Your love and compassion are unmatched, and we are forever grateful to you. 

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Maher’s Funeral Home, Placentia. Visitation will be held Friday, June 19th from 12-9 pm. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 20th at 1:30 pm at Maher’s Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Dermot McGettigan Memorial Cemetery, Southeast Placentia.
