In Loving Memory of Violet Flynn

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Violet Flynn, who passed away peacefully after a short but courageous battle with cancer on June 25, 2026, at the age of 72, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on July 17, 1953, in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador, Violet built a life centred on faith, family, friendship, and service to others. She was predeceased by her parents, Pierce and Mary Head, whose values of kindness, hard work, and compassion she carried with her throughout her life.

Violet leaves behind her devoted husband of 57 years, Francis Flynn, with whom she shared a lifetime of love, laughter, devotion, and playful banter. Anyone who spent time with them knew Frank loved to tease her whenever he had the chance, and Violet always had the perfect comeback—usually a quick "Knock it off, Frank!" or simply "Ya right, old man!" Those little exchanges became part of the love they shared and are memories their family will treasure forever.

She was the proud and loving mother of Frank (Carm), Kelly (Leonard), Brian (Janet), Corey (Frances), and Jason (Mila). She treasured every moment spent with her family, whose love and happiness were the greatest joys of her life.

She will be forever loved by her grandchildren Natasha (Ryan), Nathan, Jordan, Jenna (Matt), Dawson, Terri-Lynn (Hayden), Madison, Brianna, Cassidy, Abby, Mackenzie, Beckett, and Brenna, and by her great-grandchildren Brinley, Henry, Donte, Amaya, Kobe, Azariah, and Alora. She loved nothing more than keeping up with their lives through regular phone calls and faithfully watching their games and activities by livestream whenever she could.

She is also lovingly remembered by her brothers and sisters Veronica, Dolores, Barb, Pierce, Cliff, Walt, Gerald, and Edward, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless friends whose lives she touched.

Violet was predeceased by her siblings Teresa, Mary, Juanita, Robert, Ambrose, Ralph, and Tom Head; her parents-in-law, William and Letica Flynn; her sister-in-law, Chris Bennett; her brother-in-law, Peter Bennett; and her brother-in-law, Peter Flynn.

For more than 40 years, Violet was a devoted volunteer with the Holy Rosary Guild, giving countless hours of her time to her parish and community. Whether she was counting bingo cards, stocking the canteen, preparing meals for community events, or lending a helping hand wherever she was needed, she never sought recognition—she simply believed in serving others. She was also an active member of the Freshwater 50+ Club, where she enjoyed spending time with friends and participating in community activities. Her Catholic faith was a guiding force throughout her life and was reflected in the compassion, generosity, and quiet acts of service she shared with everyone she met.

To know Violet was to know someone who loved deeply and lived genuinely. She was known for her quick wit, colourful language that could make anyone laugh, her unforgettable sayings, her generous heart, and her incredible strength. She spoke her mind, loved fiercely, and never hesitated to lend a hand to someone in need.

She found joy in life's simple pleasures: a good game of bingo, Monday night cards, shopping trips, watching late-night game shows, a cup of tea made only with Carnation milk, an ice-cold Diet Pepsi, and a bag of plain potato chips. These simple routines brought her comfort and became some of the memories her family will cherish forever.

Above all else, Violet's greatest accomplishment was the family she built. She taught us the importance of hard work, kindness, faith, generosity, and always putting family first. Her greatest joy wasn't found in the things she owned or the places she went, but in the people she loved. Her family was her life's greatest blessing, and being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother was the role she cherished above all else. The values she instilled in her family will continue through generations and remain her greatest legacy.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Power, the nursing staff, and the healthcare professionals at the Placentia Health Care Centre for the compassion, kindness, and dignity they showed Violet throughout her illness.

We would also like to express our deepest gratitude to Lorraine Manning and Philip Gardiner. Your friendship, unwavering support, countless visits, and the love and comfort you gave Mom throughout her illness, especially in her final days, meant more than words can ever express. Thank you for never leaving her side. Your kindness will forever be remembered by our family.

Resting at Maher's Funeral Home, visitation will take place on Monday, June 29, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Violet's life will be held at 1:30 p.m. at St. Anne's Church, Dunville, with inurnment to follow at Holy Rosary Cemetery, Freshwater.

Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that her love, her laughter, her strength, and the countless lives she touched will remain with us forever.

"Well done, good and faithful servant." — Matthew 25:23

Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever in our hearts.
